The International Conducting Academy is proud to announce its inaugural season of masterclass projects in a new contribution to conductor training, development and experience. Central to the 2025 season is an innovative and comprehensive programme, directed by Colin Metters, bringing a holistic philosophy to the study of conducting and to the life and work of the conductor. Taking inspiration from great masterpieces of the classical and romantic literature, our in depth score study leads us to a discussion of the core aspects of what it is to be a conductor, whilst addressing the musical and technical issues for each conductor in realising their aspirations as artists and performers.
Jonathan Mann writes... "Afterseven successful years of the Cardiff International Academy of Conducting we are delighted to announce the new International Conducting Academy with Colin Metters as Artistic Consultant and Senior Tutor. The innovative programming of interlinked projects, directed by Colin Metters, offers us the flexibility to achieve the highest standards in the training and mentoring of conductors further strengthening our ongoing partnership.”
Colin Metters writes... “ I am very pleased to be again working with Jonathan and the International Conducting Academy. I believe this inaugural core programme brings some unique aspects to this key area of musical responsibility and represents a significant contribution to the opportunities available for aspiring conductors. It incorporates many levels of study, analysis and a broad range of conducting opportunities across a wide and challenging repertoire. Central to the programme is also designated individual and group time for discussion and self appraisal in a collaborative and non-competitive environment which offers the opportunity for real individual growth and development.”
Participants will work with Colin Metters in London, Manchester and Cardiff on five major project masterclasses with top professional instrumentalists and vocalists, including the chamber orchestras NEW Sinfonia and Ensemble Cambrica, opening in January 2025 and culminating with a public concert in Cardiff in October 2025. For the most comprehensive experience, all conductors are encouraged to sign up for the complete programme. However, it is structured to allow participants to select specific programmes if desired. Course Outline We very much look forward to welcoming aspiring conductors to this integrated programme of study and conducting.
